MVR Mother Liquor for Iron Phosphate in Yunnan

**Case Study**

MVR Mother Liquor Treatment with Low-Temperature Evaporator Crystallizer for Iron Phosphate in Yunnan

**Project Overview**

Yunnan Yuneng New Energy Battery Materials Co., Ltd. was established on July 5, 2021. The group’s headquarters, Hunan Yuneng New Energy Battery Materials Co., Ltd., was established in 2016 as a mixed-ownership company jointly invested by several excellent enterprises. It focuses on creating high-end battery-grade iron phosphate and lithium iron phosphate with superior performance and stable quality.

**Project Disposal Pain Points**

The client’s treatment process generates large amounts of high-salt wastewater through the neutralization process after the acidic immersion in the front-end. This wastewater undergoes further concentration through a membrane system before entering the MVR system for evaporation and crystallization treatment. The MVR system at the front end requires high stability of equipment and high purity of salt in the discharge. However, during operation, the salt content gradually evaporates while organic matter accumulates, affecting the purity of the by-product salt. To ensure the purity of the salt, the method of regularly discharging the mother liquor externally is adopted.

**WSD Environmental Solution**

To address the above issues, the MVR system adopts the method of external discharge of the mother liquor to solve the problem of unstable equipment operation. However, there is a large amount of mother liquor discharged externally every day, which cannot be further processed. Outsourcing costs are too high, and using traditional drying equipment for processing would result in significant odor during evaporation, large fluctuations in drying system processing capacity, high energy consumption, and low automation. After market research, the client adopted a low-temperature evaporation solution to solve the current problem of external discharge of the mother liquor. Moreover, the ammonium sulfate waste salt obtained after processing by the low-temperature drying equipment can be used as raw material for fertilizer plants, reducing the cost of hazardous waste outsourcing and generating significant economic benefits from waste salt. From the equipment’s arrival to stable operation, it only took 3 days, indicating a high level of equipment integration and strong operability.

**Disposal Effect**

The WSD environmental low-temperature evaporator crystallizer can operate fully automatically, meeting the client’s processing requirements. The treated effluent meets the client’s requirements, and the residual slurry after treatment is automatically discharged. The crystalline salt is stored temporarily in a slurry barrel/ton bag, with the residual moisture content meeting the client’s requirements. The treated effluent also meets the client’s discharge requirements.

**Comprehensive Benefits**

The WSD low-temperature evaporator crystallizer significantly reduces the amount of wastewater outsourced for treatment, and miscellaneous salts in the residual slurry can be recycled. The utilization efficiency of the MVR evaporation system is greatly improved, reducing operating costs by over 10%. The resulting ammonium sulfate salt can generate significant economic benefits, making this project a benchmark for local wastewater treatment.
